I. On the World Stage: Thousand\u2011Year\u2011Old Zhuang Brocade Debuts at the World Cup<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dating back to the Han Dynasty, Zhuang brocade has a history of over 2,000 years and ranks among China\u2019s four great traditional brocades. Boasting vibrant colours and vivid patterns, it embodies the Zhuang people\u2019s yearning for a better life. In 2006, the Zhuang brocade\u2011weaving technique was inscribed on the first national\u2011level intangible cultural heritage list of China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This year, Guangxi\u2019s Zhuang brocade has graced two world\u2011class platforms. First, at the 6th China International Consumer Products Expo, creative items such as sports caps and pendants made of Zhuang brocade dazzled visitors and merchants from home and abroad, with one Zhuang\u2011brocade handbag selling out in no time. Second, a series of Zhuang\u2011brocade products designed by Tan Xiangguang, a provincial\u2011level inheritor of the Zhuang brocade\u2011weaving technique, have become officially\u2011licensed products under the \u201cIntangible Cultural Heritage Meets the World Cup\u201d programme for the Greater China region of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. II. Developing Cultural\u2011Creative Products: Intangible\u2011Heritage Zhuang Brocade Becomes Mass\u2011Market Goods<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On June 13, the 2026 Intangible Cultural Heritage Day themed event of Nanning was held at Yongzhou Ancient City. Official\u2011licensed Zhuang\u2011brocade World\u2011Cup\u2011themed products, including Zhuang\u2011brocade footballs, Zhuang Ball Lady pendants and Zhuang\u2011brocade jerseys, were showcased and triggered a buying frenzy among local residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cultural\u2011creative mouse pads printed with python\u2011dragon and flower\u2011and\u2011bird patterns, mini\u2011patterned Zhuang Ball Lady pendants, and colourful Zhuang\u2011brocade footballs fill the Tan Xiangguang Intangible\u2011Cultural\u2011Heritage Life Hall in Baiyi\u00b7Shanghecheng. A wide selection of Zhuang\u2011brocade creative goods, priced from dozens to several hundred yuan, draw large numbers of young shoppers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAll orders for this year have been fully booked,\u201d said Wu Wenrong, general manager of the Tan Xiangguang Intangible\u2011Cultural\u2011Heritage Life Hall. At the opening ceremony of the 2026 \u201cGuangxi March\u2011Third Festival \u00b7 Eight\u2011Guai Carnival\u201d, Zhuang\u2011brocade motifs are everywhere, and tourists pose for photos wearing Zhuang\u2011brocade costumes. Founded by Tan Xiangguang, Xiangguang Brocade Workshop is one of the first \u201cEight\u2011Guai Skilled\u2011Women Intangible\u2011Heritage Workshops\u201d. For over 20 years, it has focused on passing on brocade\u2011weaving skills, incubating workshops and empowering industries. It has built an industrial model of \u201cInheritor + Workshop + Rural Weavers\u201d, leading more than a thousand rural weavers along a distinctive rural\u2011revitalisation path powered by intangible cultural heritage, where skilled hands generate prosperity. Groups of \u201cweaver\u2011entrepreneurs\u201d have emerged from here, writing new chapters for cultural inheritance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSince Guangxi\u2019s Zhuang brocade \u2018kicked\u2019 into the World Cup, our order volume has increased. We have already completed 500 Zhuang Ball Lady pendants, and more orders are queued up,\u201d said Huang Aiqun, Tan Xiangguang\u2019s disciple and municipal\u2011level inheritor of the Binyang brocade\u2011weaving technique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Across Guangxi, over 100,000 women have secured flexible home\u2011based jobs through intangible\u2011heritage entrepreneurship. The rising success of Zhuang brocade stems from persistent efforts by cultural\u2011tourism authorities, enterprises and inheritors to uphold tradition while pursuing innovation. They preserve cultural roots by strengthening historical interpretation and building pattern databases, integrate culture with design, upgrade fabrics with technology, and create consumption scenarios, realising living inheritance of intangible cultural heritage that \u201cconnects people, artefacts and daily life\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The vitality of intangible cultural heritage lies both in inheritance and innovation.
